If you have the task of kitting out your new house or apartment from scratch, it can be pretty difficult to know where to start and what type of style to use. It is all too easy to spend days choosing different sofas or bookcases of your choice, and have them delivered only to find that they just do not look good together.
Many people like to start with a mood board which is just any old piece of board where they can gather snippets of materials or shades of paint.
If you have a mood board per room that you have to decorate and furnish, you can put all your ideas down first to check that they come together coherently.
But saying that, you also have to go with your gut instinct as there can be an element of too much planning. If you love a particular item of furniture but are not one hundred per cent sure if it will go with something, then go with your heart and not with your mood board.
Above all, make sure that the furnishings reflect your personality. Many people think that the decor reflects them, but in fact it reflects the personality they want to portray which is a totally different thing indeed! In a nutshell, plan your room but also take your heart into account.
